Welke’s House of Roses offers an educational program designed to teach school children about Flowers. The class encompasses a little bit of biology, chemistry, and artistry. (Below is a detailed outline of the class and a video is included for your review.)

By the end of the class all involved will be more knowledgeable about the biology and chemistry of flowers, how to treat flowers, make flower food, and do a basic flower arrangement with fillers, lines, focals, and greens. The best part is that the students then get to take home their bouquet.

Class Outline
Part 1: Favorite Flowers. Why roses have thorns. How small sunflowers are grown. The most important flower. How flowers make you feel. (7 minutes)

Part 2: Caring for your Fresh Cut Flowers. How to make flower food. What is the best flower food. Proper cutting technique. Five second rule. (9 minutes)

Part 3: Bouquets. The four basic flower types: Fillers, Lines, Focals, Greens and how to arrange them. (8 minutes)
Part 4: Bouquet Making. Every participant gets a chance to make a bouquet to take home. (15-35 minutes, depending on the size of the class)
