2014 Wedding Trends: Peonies

Posted

This week, we’re highlighting one of the biggest 2014 wedding flower trends: peonies.

What makes the peony (besides its obvious beauty) such a popular choice? In a word: versatility. Here are a few reasons why this flower is an all-around winner:

1) They come in a variety of colors and shades. Peonies come in both light pastels and vibrant hues. Plus, many of the shades coincide well with current color trends: white, pale pink and peach, to name a few.

2) Their broad combination of shapes and textures. Starting as tight buds with clean, circular lines (perfect for a modern, minimalist style), peony heads open up into a relaxed, graceful caucophony of texture and color (perfect for garden, vintage or rustic weddings). This versatility in shape and texture makes them easy to dress up (think elegant or cosmpolitan themes) or dress down (for relaxed, natural, garden or rustic themes). They look great paired with other flowers but can easily stand alone. Basically, the peony is a garden in one variety!

3) Their peak blooming season coincides with peak wedding season (late spring to early summer). Since wedding decor is often inspired by the season of the event, peonies are a natural flower choice for June weddings. If your wedding falls outside of the peak peony blooming period, then this flower may be more expensive or unavailable. Your floral designer can let you know which flowers are available during a given month, so simply ask!
