5 Facts About Sunflowers

Posted by

We're starting to see lots of sunflowers in the store again -- it's that time of year! Here are five fun facts about sunflowers:

1) A sunflower is actually made up of lots of small flowers (florets) – so instead of a flower, it’s proper term would be an inflorescence.

2) The world’s tallest sunflower (according to the Guiness Book of World Records) was grown in Germany in 2013. It reached over 28 feet tall! *

3)  Sunflowers can be used to extract certain toxins from soil. **

4) Sunflowers originated in North America.

5) Sunflowers seeds make a great snack! The seeds are the also the source of sunflower oil (used for salad dressing or cooking).

Next time you send a floral arrangement from your favorite Milwaukee florist, ask the designer to include sunflowers!
