Let us Help You Celebrate Saint Valentine’s Day

Posted by

For some, Valentine’s Day can be a dreary and overly sentimental holiday, but it always will remind you of the simpler times, when you gave candy hearts to your crush in fifth grade. For others, it’s the perfect opportunity to tell someone you love them in even the simplest of ways, whether that’s candy hearts, chocolates, or flowers. For others still, it’s a day full of beauty and love that will withstand even the biggest challenges. Wherever you find yourself on the scale, make this Valentine’s Day one that you will remember. If you need a boost of encouragement to get you in the spirit of the most romantic day of the year, here’s a little reminder of how the day began.

Traveling back to the third century in Rome, Emperor Claudius II outlawed young men from getting married, as single men were better soldiers. One young priest, Valentine, continued to perform marriages for young couples in private. When his actions were discovered, he was imprisoned and sentenced to death. While he was in jail, he met the jailer’s daughter, who he fell in love with. Before his execution, he sent a letter to his love and signed in, “From your Valentine.” Valentine was put to death on February 14th, 270 AD. Jump ahead a few years and around 496 AD, the pope declared the day of his execution to be a day where everyone honors the ones they love.

Why Celebrate Valentine’s Day?

Valentine’s Day isn’t just a day for sending flowers to a significant other. It’s also about showing appreciation for everyone in your life, whether that’s a parent, friend, sibling, or anyone who has shown you compassion or care. We understand that some may think Valentine’s Day is a commercialized holiday, but when you look at the basics of why it began, it just feels right to take part.

Valentine wanted to make sure that everyone had a chance to be with the one they love, even if it was against the law to make that happen. You don’t have to stand up for marriage rights or be sent to prison to honor Valentine’s Day, but take a moment to think about the people in your life who you would love to see a big smile on their face when they have a beautiful bouquet of roses delivered to them. Even a single rose placed on someone’s desk, car, front porch, or in a mailbox can go a long way in showing them that you care and appreciate them being in your life.
